The Tagul ( Russian Тагул ) is a 300 km long left tributary of the Birjussa in Irkutsk Oblast in southern Siberia .
The Tagul rises on the northern flank of the Eastern Sayan . It flows mainly in a northerly direction. Its course of the river lies in a narrow valley. There are several waterfalls on the upper reaches. At river kilometer 164 the Gutara , the most important tributary, meets the Tagul from the right. In the lower reaches of the river there are numerous rapids. The Tagul flows into the Birjussa about 50 km south of Birjussinsk . The catchment area of the Tagul covers 7990 km². At the Georgievka gauge , 12 km above the mouth, the mean discharge is 104 m³ / s.
The Tagul is mainly fed by precipitation. The river is flooded between May and September . The Tagul starts to ice in October. The river is ice-covered between November and May.
