Birjussinsk ( Russian Бирюси́нск ) is a city in the Irkutsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 8981 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the southwest of the Birjussaplateau in the northern foreland of the Eastern Sayan , about 680 km northwest of the Oblast capital Irkutsk on the Birjussa , the left source river of the Mugjewa in the Angara basin .

The city is located on the Trans-Siberian Railway (km 4503 from Moscow ). The South Siberian Railway ( Tagul station ) runs south of the city . The R255 Novosibirsk –Irkutsk highway crosses the Biryussa five kilometers east of Birjussinsk .
history
The place arose with the construction of various works in the 20th century as a workers' settlement Sujeticha , named after a small tributary of the Birjussa. In 1967 he received city rights under its current name.
