geography

The place is located in the mountainous south of Siberia , about 60 kilometers north of the Oblast capital Irkutsk on the river Kuda , a right tributary of the Angara . It is separated from Lake Baikal , 90 km south-east, by the Primorsky Mountains.

Ust-Ordynski is the administrative center of the Rajons Echirit-Bulagatski .

history

The old Buryat village of Khushir was located in the place of today's Ust-Ordynski . Since the beginning of the 19th century there was also a post office (unofficially known as Schwed , Russian for Swede , after a prisoner of war from the (presumably) Russo-Swedish War 1808-1809 who is said to have operated the post office).

On September 26, 1937, the Ust-Ordynsk Buryat Autonomous Okrug (initially … Buryat-Mongols ) was established. The place was renamed Ust-Ordynski (i.e. Ordynka estuary , after the Ordynka , also Orduschka brook, which flows into the Kuda ) and made its administrative center, after being the center of the Aimak Echirit-Bulagat of the Buryat-Mongolian Autonomous Oblast since 1922 (from 1923 Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic , ASSR) was.

In 1941 the status of an urban-type settlement was given, which the place lost again in 1992 and has been a rural settlement ever since .

As of January 1, 2008, as a result of the referendum of April 16, 2006, the Autonomous Okrug lost its status as an independent administrative entity of the Russian Federation , and Ust-Ordynski has since been a simple district administrative center in Irkutsk Oblast.
