Novaya Igirma ( Russian Новая Игирма ) is an urban-type settlement in Irkutsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 10,161 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the northwest of the Lena Angara plateau , about 800 kilometers (as the crow flies) north of the Oblast capital Irkutsk on the Igirma river of the same name, about 25 kilometers above its confluence with the Ilim . At Novaya Igirma the river is still in the storage area of the Ust-Ilimsk reservoir of the Angara .
Novaya Igirma is located in Nizhneilimsky Rajon (Lower Ilim) about 70 kilometers north of its administrative center Zheleznogorsk-Ilimski .
history
The place arose from 1966 in connection with the construction of a branch line of the Baikal-Amur-Magistrale from the station Khrebtovaya near Schelesnogorsk-Ilimski to Ust-Ilimsk , where the Angara dam and a large cellulose factory were to be built. In the following year, the status of urban-type settlement was given.
The first train reached Novaya Igirma in 1968, and the entire railway line began operating in 1973. As a result, the place developed into a center of forestry.

Economy and Infrastructure
Novaya Igirma is the center of forestry.
This is where the Igirma station on the Khrebtovaya – Ust-Ilimsk railway line is located (km 70). The road from Zheleznogorsk-Ilimsky to Ust-Ilimsk also runs through Novaya Igirma.
