Taimuras Aslanbekowitsch Dsgojew ( Russian Таймураз Асланбекович Дзгоев ; born July 24, 1961 in Ordzhonikidze ) is a former Soviet wrestler . He was the free style middleweight world champion in 1982 and 1983.

Career

Taimuras Dzgojew grew up in Ordzhonikidze in North Ossetia . His father was Aslanbek Dzgojew, one of the most renowned free style coaches in the Soviet Union. It is therefore understandable that Dzgojew has been "hanging around" on the wrestling mat since he was a young boy and began targeted wrestling training when he was 10 years old. He celebrated his first success as a teenager in 1972 at a city tournament in Groznywhen he won first prize in the weight category up to 37 kg and in 1974 he had already met the criteria for the title of "Master of Sports". 1975 Dzgojew was youth champion of the RSFSR, the largest part of the Soviet Union. From 1977 to 1980 he was then four times in a row Soviet youth or junior champion in free style in different weight classes.

He achieved his first major international success in 1981 when he became junior world champion in free style welterweight in Vancouver , Canada, ahead of the Japanese Naomi Higushi and Barban Sabancioglu from Turkey . Dzgojew continued this successful career in 1982 with the seniors, because he was in Edmonton , so again in Canada, also world champion in the senior middleweight division. He defeated u. a. Olympic champion David Schultz from the United States with 7: 5 points and gave the Bulgarian Efraim Kamberow no chance in the final .

In 1982 and 1983 he was also the Soviet middleweight champion.

In 1983 Dzgojew successfully defended the world title at the World Cup in Kiev . He ended up doing it u. a. Victories over Josef Lohyna , Czechoslovakia , Efraim Kamberow and won in the final battle against the Mongols Dzewegiin Düwtschin .

In 1984 he was deprived of the chance to become Olympic champion by politicians. In May 1985 Taimuras Dzgojew took part in the so-called "World Super Championships" in Tokyo . It was by no means a world championship, but an invitation tournament of the Japanese Wrestling Association. In this rather insignificant tournament Taimuras Dzgojew injured himself so badly in the fight against Mark Schultz from the USA that he had to say goodbye to wrestling.

The wrestling career in Taimuras was very short but extremely successful. During this career, he studied physical education and sport at the Karachay-Circassian state pedagogical college and graduated in 1984. He then studied at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ordzhonikidze, which he also successfully completed in 1988.
