history

In 1997, Jacqueline L. Groves began her first studies of the gorillas of the Takamanda Reserve. According to their study, there were around 100 animals in the Takamanda Forest Reserve in 1999.

In 2006, environmental organizations campaigned for a joint approach by the states in which the Cross River gorillas occur. The Wildlife Conservation Society was involved in establishing the national park in 2008 . She said she hoped the facility would reduce gorilla hunting and deforestation - both factors that have led to the threat to Cross River gorillas.

fauna

Cross river gorillas are critically endangered.

In addition to the cross-river gorillas, there are also plenty of reptile species in the park. According to the Camherp Project study from 2001, Takamanda National Park a. the stump crocodile ( Osteolaemus tetraspis ), the spiked- edge jointed turtle ( Kinixys erosa ), the stump jointed turtle ( Kinixys homeana ), the Nile soft turtle ( Trionyx triunguis ), African house gecko ( Hemidactylus mabouia ), comb chameleon ( Chamaeleo cristatus ) and many more species.
