The Arroyito dam ( Spanish Represa Arroyito ) is a dam with hydroelectric power station in Argentina . It dams the Río Limay , which forms the border between the provinces of Neuquén and Río Negro , into a reservoir. The dam is used to generate electricity. It was inaugurated in 1979. The provincial capital of Neuquén is about 45 km downstream .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure consists of a concrete gravity dam (machine house and weir system ) as well as embankments that connect on both sides. The height of the structure is a maximum of 26 (or 37) m. The total length of the structure is 3500 m. The width of the dams is between 6 and 10 m at the crown. 4 million m³ of bulk material were used for the dams. A maximum of 2582 (or 3750) m³ / s can be discharged via the weir system.

Reservoir

When the reservoir is fully blocked, it extends over an area of around 38.6 km² and holds 300 (or 361) million m³ of water. The maximum storage destination is 316.5 m.

power plant

The power plant went into operation in 1983. The installed capacity is 120 (or 127.8) MW . The average annual generation is given as 560 (or 720) million  kWh . The 3 Kaplan turbines each have a maximum output of 42.66 MW. The nominal speed of the turbines is 90.9 min −1 . The height of fall is 16.85 m. In the switchgear , the generator voltage of 13.8 kV is increased to 132 kV using power transformers.
