The dam Villalcampo ( Spanish Presa de Villalcampo ) is a dam with hydroelectric power station in the municipality of Villalcampo , Zamora province , Spain . It dams the Duero into a reservoir. The dam is used to generate electricity. Construction began in 1942; it was completed in 1949. The dam is owned and operated by Iberdrola Generacion SA .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 50 m above the foundation base . The top of the wall is at a height of 603 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 300 (or 315) m. The volume of the dam is 201,000 m³.
The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 920 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 11,800 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 8,000 m³ / s.
Reservoir
With the normal storage target of 601 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 4.45 km² and holds 66 million m³ of water; 42.47 (or 53) million m³ of this can be used to generate electricity.
power plant
The installed capacity of the power plant with two Kaplan turbines is 206 (or 218) MW . The first machine with an output of 96 MW went into operation in 1949; the second with an output of 110 MW in 1977. The machine house is on the right bank of the river.
The drop height is 37 m for the turbine 1 and 36.6 m for the turbine 2. The maximum flow rate is 303 m³ / s for the turbine 1 and at 340 m³ / s for the turbine. 2
