Tania Freiin von Uslar-Gleichen (* in Munich ) is a German lawyer , diplomat and Vice President of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND).

Life

Von Uslar-Gleichen lived in Washington, DC for a few years from 1978 to 1981 and attended the German School there . Your father, Brigadier General ret. D. Hasso Freiherr von Uslar-Gleichen was an army attaché at the German embassy there . Harald Freiherr von Uslar-Gleichen , also a retired Brigadier General. D., was her grandfather. From 1983 to 1989 she studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1989 she passed her first legal examination , completed her legal clerkship from 1989 to 1992 and in 1992 her second state legal examination. Then von Uslar-Gleichen began a dissertation , which she never completed.

career

From 1993 to 1994 she completed the 14-month attaché training of the Foreign Office (AA) in Bonn . She then worked as a consultant in the office of the Minister of State for European Affairs at the Foreign Office . Tania von Uslar-Gleichen was employed at the German Embassy in Budapest from 1995 to 1998 . This was followed by a position in the personnel department of the Foreign Office in Bonn and Berlin . She completed the following request from 2001 to 2004 in the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Union in Brussels and as a liaison to the then High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy , Javier Solana .

Subsequently, von Uslar-Gleichen was deputy head of the conflict prevention unit in the United Nations department until 2006 and chief of staff of the head of the policy unit Helga Schmid in the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union in Brussels until 2010 . In 2010 she was seconded to the Federal Chancellery in Berlin for three years as head of the “European relations with EU member states and EU external relations” . From 2014 to August 2018 von Uslar-Gleichen was Deputy Head of the German Embassy in London . As chargé d'affaires , she was also temporarily in charge of the embassy. She then held the office of Commissioner for Human Rights, International Development and Social Affairs at the Foreign Office and worked as a departmental coordinator for sustainable development.

On July 1, 2019, von Uslar-Gleichen became the first female Vice-President of the BND and successor to Ole Diehl .
