Tantalum (IV) chloride is an inorganic chemical compound of tantalum from the group of chlorides .
Extraction and presentation
Tantalum (IV) chloride can be obtained by reacting tantalum (V) chloride with aluminum or tantalum.
properties
Tantalum (IV) chloride is a diamagnetic solid in the form of shiny, brown-black crystal needles. Like the very similar niobium (IV) chloride , it is extremely sensitive to moisture. It has a monoclinic crystal structure with the space group P 2 1 / m (space group no. 11) , a = 679 pm , b = 1171 pm, c = 1229 pm, β = 94 ° 33 '.
