World Dance Championship (Latin)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The world championships in Latin American dances are held separately for amateurs and professionals.

Professionals

The world championships for professionals in Latin American dances have been held annually in the last quarter of the year since they were organized by the International Council of Ballroom Dancing (ICBD) in 1959. The ICBD has since been renamed the World Dance Council and represents all major countries that are actively involved in professional dancing.

Since the opening of the Professional Division of the World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) in June 2010, a world championship for professionals in Latin American dances has also been held there.

World Dance Council (WDC)

The professional world champions of the years 1999–2007 Bryan Watson and Carmen Vincelj ended their active dance sport career in May 2007. After Donnie Burns and Gaynor Fairweather, they are the most successful Latin dance couple among professionals. The current professional world champions are Riccardo Cocchi & Yulia Zagoruychenko from the United States of America.
