Tapacarí ( Quechua Tapaqari ) is a town in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Tapacarí is the central place of the canton Tapacarí in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Tapacarí and the administrative seat of the province Tapacarí . The village is located at an altitude of 2997 m directly at the confluence of the rivers Río Huareca , Río Semana Uma , Río Pavkha Uma and Río Makhala , which flow into the Río Tapacarí here .

Tapacarí is located east of the Altiplano between the mountain ranges of the Serranía de Sicasica and the Cordillera Mazo Cruz , which in turn is part of the Bolivian Cordillera Oriental . The region is characterized by a typical daytime climate , in which the temperature differences during the day are more pronounced than the seasonal temperature differences.
The mean annual temperature of the region is 10 to 11 ° C (see climate diagram Arque ), the monthly mean temperatures fluctuate between 6 and 7 ° C in June / July and 13 ° C in November / December. The annual precipitation is around 600 mm and falls mainly from December to February with monthly precipitation of 100 to 140 mm, while in the winter months from May to September there is a dry season with monthly precipitation of less than 15 mm.

The place is located about 100 kilometers by road from Cochabamba in a south-westerly direction and can be reached from the capital of the department in 4-6 hours.
From Cochabamba the highway Ruta 4 leads over 37 km to Parotani , from there an unpaved road west to Tapacarí, whereby the largely dried-out river bed of the Río Tapacarí serves as a road during the dry season. From the west, Tapacarí can be reached via an unpaved road from Independencia (Ayopaya) , which leads over a pass at an altitude of about 4,000 m.

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Tapacarí 75.5 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
economy
The residents mainly operate subsistence farming with the cultivation of potatoes , ocas , beans and cereals and sheep and goat breeding for their own consumption, and they also supply small quantities of food products for the market in Quillacollo .

On 26 January is Tapacarí , the annual festival of Tapacarí 'regional folklore celebrated.
