Tarpan was a Polish car brand.
Company history
The Fabryka Samochodów Rolniczych from Poznan was a factory for agricultural vehicles. In 1973 or 1974 the production of passenger cars began . The brand name was Tarpan , named after a wild horse . Production ended in 1996 when Fabryka Samochodów Rolniczych was dissolved.

The vehicles were off-road vehicles that were also suitable as utility vehicles in agriculture. One source calls the first model the Tarpan 4x4 .
Tarpan 233
This was the first model. It was available as a pickup with a single and double cab, as well as a station wagon . The suspension came according to sources from Warszawa or the FSC Żuk . One source mentions the four-cylinder engine of the Warszawa with 2120 cm³ displacement as the drive source , later the four-cylinder engine of the Polski Fiat 125p . Another source mentions an S-21 engine with OHV valve control , 1481 cm³ displacement and 70 hp and a 4V M20 engine with 2417 cm³ displacement and 70 hp.
Tarpan 235
This model appeared in 1978. It had a new chassis , a new front suspension and a revised body. The tensile load was specified as 1 ton . The engine came from the Polski Fiat 125p.

Production of this model ended in 1991.

Tarpan Tarpaniello
This prototype was made around 1980. Many parts came from Fabryka Samochodów Osobowych (FSO). This prototype led to the Honker .
Tarpan Honker
This model followed in 1988 or 1989. It was created in collaboration with Iveco . The engine and chassis came from Fiat and Nissan . There was a choice of a petrol engine with 82 hp or a diesel engine with 106 hp. Another source mentions three different engines from 1990: the AA with 1.5 liter displacement and 75 HP, the AB with 1.6 liters and 82 HP and the CB with 1.6 liters and 86 HP from FSO Polonez ; and later other engines. Diesel engines with a displacement of 2.5 liters and 75 hp as well as a turbo diesel engine with 100 hp followed. This model was also available as a minibus and pickup . Production at FSR ended in January 1996.
Daewoo Motor Polska acquired a license or parts of the company in March 1996 and continued production without using the Tarpan brand name .
Quantities
8,533 vehicles were built between 1973 and 1976. In 1977 the number rose to over 5000 vehicles and in 1978 to over 6000 vehicles. In the mid-1980s, around 4,000 vehicles were built annually.
Distribution in Germany
The then state foreign trade company Pol-Mot exported vehicles to Germany.
