Tarumá is a town in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Tarumá is the third largest town in the canton of La Angostura in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) El Torno in the province of Andrés Ibáñez . The city is located at an altitude of 600  m on the right bank of the Río Piraí between the cities of El Torno and La Angostura .

Tarumá is located in the tropical, humid climate on the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental . The region was covered by subtropical rainforest before colonization , but is now mostly cultivated land .

The mean average temperature of the region is 24 ° C, the annual precipitation is 950 mm (see climate diagram La Angostura). The monthly average temperatures fluctuate between 20 ° C in July and 26 ° C in December and January, the monthly precipitation is abundant from November to March and is over 100 mm, the climate from June to September is arid with precipitation below 40 mm.

Transport network

Tarumá is located 41 kilometers by road southwest of Santa Cruz , the capital of the department.

From the center of Santa Cruz, the paved road Ruta 7 leads as a four-lane " Grigota Avenue " in a south-westerly direction via the cities of El Carmen , La Guardia and El Torno to Tarumá , and on via La Angostura, Samaipata and Comarapa to Cochabamba .

Due to the immigration history of the population, the region has a significant proportion of Quechua population, in the Municipio El Torno 27.7 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
