from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tassilo Fürstenberg , called "Tassilo (Prince) von Fürstenberg", (born June 20, 1903 in Brussels as Tassilo Egon Maria Karl Georg Leo Prince of Fürstenberg ; †  July 15, 1987 in Strobl , Austria ) was an Austro-Hungarian former nobleman from the Fürstenberg family .

family

The Fürstenberg dynasty was a former noble family with extensive branches in Europe and has been documented since the 13th century. Tassilo was born in 1903 as the eldest of five children of Karl Emil, Prince zu Fürstenberg (* 1867 in Prague ; † 1945 in Strobl; from 1919 Karl Emil Fürstenberg ) and Maria, née Countess Festetics von Tolna (1881–1953; from 1919 Maria Fürstenberg ), born in Brussels, where his father was an Austro-Hungarian diplomat at the time.

Life

He married Claire Jeanne Agnelli (born April 7, 1920 - July 19, 2016) in Turin on November 19, 1938 , a sister of the former Fiat bosses Gianni and Umberto Agnelli . From the marriage the children emerged:

When Tassilo Fürstenberg married into the Italian industrial family Agnelli in 1938, Clara's grandfather Gianni Agnelli had high hopes for the continued existence of the entrepreneurial dynasty, especially since Tassilo was fluent in four languages. Tassilo himself, on the other hand, soon lost all interest in joining the family business and later also in his wife.

After the divorce from Claire Agnelli, he married the Texan Cecil Amelia Blaffer, known as "Titi Furstenberg" on October 17, 1975. She was the daughter of the American industrialist Robert Lee Blaffer (Humble Oil, later ExxonMobil ) and the art philanthropist Sarah Jane Campbell, whose family owned Texaco .

Tassilo Fürstenberg was one of the founders of the American Berlin Opera Foundation in 1986 .
