occupation

Jungle Brothers is a television film from the crime scene crime series by ARD and ORF . It is the ninth joint case of the Berlin investigator duo Ritter and Stark .

action

The Rastafarian Koffi starts his nightly cleaning service in the "International Trade Center". Before he starts his work, he demands a raise from his boss Kurt Kremlin - otherwise he will set up a works council. While vacuuming, the nervous father of his girlfriend Freda Amadou suddenly stands in front of him and offers him a deal: he ends his friendship with his daughter and in return receives new papers, a place at university and “adequate compensation”. Koffi casually replies that the residence permit is not a problem anyway because they want to get married and are expecting a child. Full of aggression, Willi Amadou pushes him through the window on the 8th floor. The window cleaner Taribo George is following the whole scene and wants to tell his boss something after work. This blocks. He finds the dead man next to his van. Kremlin has absolutely no use for a dead illegal worker. On the spur of the moment, he pulls it aside and discovers a golf club pin in his hand. He takes the body to the airport and places it in a green area, where Ritter, Stark and Weber start the investigation the next morning.

Taribo George describes his observations to the dissolved Freda, but cannot give any clear clues as to who the perpetrator could have been.

The first findings of the police indicate a fall from a great height after an argument. Stark receives a tip from the manager of the asylum seekers' home about Taribo George, who was a friend of Koffi's, and the manager of the "Diallo" salon leads the inspectors to Freda Amadou. After some hesitation, Freda sends Commissioner Ritter to the Kremlin. Freda pretends not to know Taribo George.

Willi Amadou is celebrating his 50th birthday at the golf club. Meanwhile, his daughter is not in the mood for a party and leaves the club prematurely. Kremlin approaches Amadou on the fairway and makes it clear to him that he knows that there is a witness to his crime. He demands hush money and joint deals with Amadou, to whom he presents the pin that he found on the victim. In return, Amadou expects the witness to be found.

When the commissioners arrive, Kremlin plays the ignorant. Only when he is associated with human trafficking does he give in and show himself a little more cooperative. Properly further brings the inspectors to the "post office" at Madame Diallo, where there is a letter to Taribo George. In the meantime, Freda and Taribo discuss the possibilities with the student advisory service and come up with the idea of asking Willi Amadou for support. In search of Taribo, Ritter and Stark appear at the university. Despite a short escape they are able to catch Taribo. He cooperates and describes everything he has seen, but is not really convincing yet. Nevertheless, he is released a short time later in exchange for a deposit and is brought to Amadou's holiday home by Freda. This is what is observed by Kremlin.

Amadou pays the required hush money to the Kremlin. After learning the address of the witness's hiding place from Kremlin, he shoots “Mr. Clean “without further ado. Taribo recognizes Koffi's killer in a family picture in the holiday apartment. Before Amadou can kill Taribo, the commissioners appear.

criticism

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv says about this crime scene: “'Jungle Brothers' by Lars Becker wants to combine tension with claim: The accused are the illegal employment of asylum seekers, which borders on human trafficking, and the living conditions of black Africans in Germany. The 'Tatort' owes its appeal primarily to the dialogues between Ritter and Stark, the precise drawing of the milieu and the inimitable Armin Rohde, whose cleaning devil has a lot of dirt on his hands. "

When Tagesspiegel Alva Gehrmann writes: "The Berlin scene, Jungle Brothers' is a typical Becker movie he portrays in milieus, and he plays with clichés (Africans working illegally in a cleaning crew) - to then break. Because there is also the successful, black building contractor Willi Amadou, who doesn't want his daughter to get involved with a black window cleaner. Becker calls it 'Racism from the other side'. Telling about the everyday problems of black Germans is a personal matter for him, since his wife's family comes from Eritrea. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm write: "Milieu drawing without black and white painting."
