Die Kugel im Leib is a television film from the television crime series Tatort by ARD and ORF . The film was produced by WDR and broadcast for the first time on January 14, 1979. It is the 95th episode in the crime scene series, the 16th with Commissioner Haferkamp .

action

Seriously injured, Reiner Mettmann collapses on his motorcycle on Essener Strasse in Oberhausen. He claims to have been shot with a gun by a stranger who wanted his motorcycle and fled after the fact. Mettmann is a steep wall artiste who has financial problems with his fairground attraction , because his investments in the new steep wall have swallowed up too much money and TÜV Rheinland does not want to accept the system without further safety modifications. At the same time, a savings bank nearby in Essen was attacked and a police officer was shot.

Inspector Haferkamp is annoyed when he hears about the incident with Mettmann too late. At first the story sounds believable, but then the person shot refuses to have the bullet removed. Haferkamp is certain that the ballistic investigation would prove that the bullet came from the killed police officer and that Mettmann is the wanted bank robber. In the meantime, Mettmann's partner on the wall, Paco, found the hidden money and the weapon from the robbery. He covered the ailing Mettmann and caused him to move to Italy near Venice in order to circumvent the German TÜV regulations.

Haferkamp follows them as a tourist with his ex-wife Ingrid and really forces himself on the group of artists. The inspector is looking for a way to get Mettmann to remove the bullet. With the help of Paco there could be a solution. Haferkamp can manipulate the artist into causing Mettmann to fall during the performance, in order to have the ball removed from him in a private clinic. The plan succeeds so far, but when Mettmann tries to escape from the clinic, he falls to his death.
