Rolf Schimpf

Rolf Schimpf (born November 14, 1924 in Berlin ) is a German actor . Among other things, he became known for playing the title role in the ZDF television series Der Alte between 1986 and 2009.

Life

Schimpf, son of naval officer Hans Schimpf (1897–1935), grandson of Rosa Helene Schimpf and Ernst Schimpf, great-grandson of the composer Christian Fink and great-great-grandson of the publisher's founder Jakob Ferdinand Schreiber , served in the assault artillery during World War II , sustaining a serious head injury .

After the war he first learned a commercial profession at the Hengstenberg company in Esslingen am Neckar , but then switched to the Stuttgart drama school in Gensichen as a drama student . After completing his training, he played at various theaters, including in Lucerne, Bern and at the Hamburger Kammerspiele under Ida Ehre .

The television audience knows him mainly from the ZDF crime series Der Alte , in which he played chief detective Leo Kress from 1986 to 2007 . In November 2006, he announced his exit from the series after playing the role for over 21 years. The 322nd and final episode with Schimpf in the title role was shot in December 2006. However, he was again in front of the camera in a guest role as retired Chief Inspector Leo Kress for the 340th episode "Taxi Murderer" broadcast in 2009.

In television he had mainly worked in supporting roles since the late 1950s. At the end of the sixties he worked in the early evening series Hafenkrankenhaus (1968) alongside Anneli Granget and in Ida Rogalski (1970) as the son of Inge Meysel in continuous roles. Other TV series roles followed in the 1970s: My daughter - Our Miss Doctor (1970), My brother - Der Herr Doktor Berger (1972) and in The Protocols of Mr M. (1979). He often played in other TV series, but it was mostly episode roles, so u. a. in the crime series SOKO 5113 (1978–1986), in Büro, Büro (1982), in the doctor series Die Schwarzwaldklinik (1986) and in file number XY (e.g. episode 150, 1982).

In the satirical television film Der Sheriff von Linsenbach (1983) he was seen in his first TV leading role. He then played the title role in the series Mensch Bachmann in 1984 and gained greater fame. The producer was Helmut Ringelmann , who hired him a few years later for Der Alte .

Rolf Schimpf was married to the actress Ilse Zielstorff from 1968 until her death in May 2015 . The couple moved into the Augustinum senior citizens' home in Munich-Neufriedenheim in June 2010 , where Rolf Schimpf still lives.
