Tatyana McFadden (born April 21, 1989 in Leningrad ) is an American wheelchair athlete of Russian origin . In 2004 and 2008, McFadden was successful in the Paralympics on the short distance and in the relay, in 2012 she also competed in the marathon, and in 2016 also on the long distance.

Life

McFadden was born with a malformation of the spinal cord , which left him paralyzed from the waist down. McFadden spent the first six years of his life in an orphanage in her hometown. In 1994 she was adopted by Debbie McFadden and moved to the United States with her adoptive family.

In 2004, McFadden took part in the Paralympics for the first time at the age of 15 and won a silver and a bronze medal in Athens. At the Paralympics in Beijing in 2008 she won three silver and one bronze medals. By winning the 2011 Chicago Wheelchair Marathon , McFadden qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, where she won three golds and one bronze.

In 2014 McFadden took part in the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi and won a silver medal in cross-country skiing in the 1 km sprint discipline.
