Te Kao is a small settlement in the Far North District of Northland on the North Island of New Zealand .
geography
The settlement is located around 37 km southeast of Cape Reinga and around 58 km north-northwest of Kaitaia , on the Te Kao Stream on the Aupōuri Peninsula . The New Zealand State Highway 1 runs through the settlement . The closest settlements are Tangoake 3 km north and Ngataki around 12 km southeast.
The Parengarenga Harbor is located about 6 km north, the east coast about 5 km to the east and the west coast with the Ninety Mile Beach is located approximately 7.5 km to the southwest. From Te Kao , a road leads west to the settlement of Ngatiwhetu and Lake Wahakari .
Education
With the Te Kao School, the settlement has a primary school with grades 1 to 8. In 2015, 37 students attended the school.
Sports
The athlete Te Houtaewa from Te Aupōuri started his run along Ninety Mile Beach in Te Kao .
