Ted Bundy is an American psychological thriller from 2002 , based on real life.

action

Seattle , 1974 . Law student Ted Bundy seems like the typical nice man next door, but beneath his smooth surface lies a beast. After just chasing after young women and masturbating in front of their windows, he finally commits his first murder. From then on he managed to lure young women into his car by faking an arm cast or an illness and asking for help or pretending to be a police officer. He then knocks them out with a tool laid out , tied them up and drives them to remote places, where he raped and murdered them. With his yellow VW Beetle he is leaving a bloody trail across the USA . The police are in the dark because nobody suspects the exemplary student and politically active man. His girlfriend only notices his strange sexual practices, during which he is often violent.

In 1975 one of his victims, Tina Gabler, escapes him near Salt Lake City by jumping out of a vehicle. Based on her description of his car, Bundy is stopped and arrested by a police officer. In his trunk, the officers found stocking masks, a hand saw, a crowbar wrapped with tape, knives, ropes and handcuffs. Although he is clearly identified in a comparison by Tina Gabler, he denies having ever seen the woman. When his girlfriend visits him in Colorado State Prison, he confesses to her that he has been charged with multiple murders, while stressing that there is no evidence and he can never be convicted, whereupon she distances herself from him. Because of his desire to defend himself, he was given access to the law library, from which he managed to escape. He was arrested again after a car theft, but escaped a few months later. This time he assaults three women in their apartment and brutally beats them. After the murder and rape of a little girl, he was heavily drunk, recognized by a police officer and arrested after a brief attempt to escape. After giving up one last meal, he was executed on January 24, 1989 by a woman in an electric chair .

criticism

“The film strings any sequence of the 35 documented feminicides one after the other, but it can neither raise awareness of the victims' suffering nor work out the motives of the perpetrator, who was executed in 1989. Despite the good lead actor, a disappointing film, whose flimsy plea against the death penalty leaves a stale aftertaste. "

“Confident: The disturbing study does without cheap shock effects. Sober design, but shocking. "

background

The film tells the story of the well-known serial killer Ted Bundy , who brutally murdered at least 28 women between 1973 and 1978. A victim was able to escape and thus provide the important clue for Bundy's capture.
