The company name Tedom was created as an abbreviation of the Czech phrase TEplo DOMova (in translation: domestic warmth). The main subject of activity is the development and production of gas-powered combined heat and power plants . Also, gas heat pumps and internal combustion engines of their own design are part of the product portfolio of the company.

In the early days, Tedom operated as a limited liability company. From 1994 onwards, a group of companies gradually emerged under the management of Tedom. In 2010 the holding company became a stock corporation. The joint stock company Tedom as was founded and is currently active in more than 40 countries around the world.

In 2016, Tedom bought the German company Schnell Motoren, a leading manufacturer of combined heat and power units for biogas plants, with the aim of better asserting itself on the German market. In 2017 Tedom founded the Tedom Group - a group of companies in which the companies involved in Tedom operate. All companies in the group deal with the development, generation, installation or operation of combined heat and power plants.

history

Tedom was founded as a limited liability company in 1991 by Josef Jeleček. From the beginning, the company's purpose was the development, production and sale of combined heat and power plants with reciprocating gas engines. In the same year, the first Tedom MT 22 cogeneration unit with an output of 22 kW, which used the Škoda 781 four-cylinder gasoline engine (from the Škoda Favorit series ), was put into operation.

In 1993 a close cooperation with the company VKS sro Hořovice was established. This became the manufacturer of various machine parts for combined heat and power plants, while Tedom concentrated on the production of electrical components, the distribution and the regional service of combined heat and power plants. In the same year, the new system type Tedom MT 130A with an output of 130 kW was developed, which provided for the use of the twelve-liter six-cylinder diesel engine LIAZ M630 from the LIAZ 100 series truck.

From 1994 onwards, Tedom gradually began to build a holding company. The first subsidiary was the company Třebíčská tepelná společnost sro, which rented and operated the heating system in Třebíč. The second subsidiary, Teplo Ivančice sro (responsible for the operation of the Ivančice heating system) was founded in 1996. In 1997 the third subsidiary Jesenická tepelná společnost sro (operator of the Jesenice heating system) was established. In 1999 the company Tedom Energo sro was founded (originally called Příborská tepelná společnost sro), which covered most of the company's nationwide activities related to electricity and heat generation in the Czech Republic. In 2000 the company Tenergo Brno as was founded, which was engaged in the operation of heating systems in Slovakia. In 2003 Tedom became a member of Cogen Europe (European Association for the Promotion of Cogeneration).

In 2000 the individual products were also renewed. The new product lines Premi and Cento were created. In 2001 Tedom began to devote himself to the block-type thermal power stations for the combustion of biogas. Following this activity, in 2002 a new range of Tedom cogeneration units for biogas combustion, the Quanto range, was presented.

In 2003, Tedom acquired the Jamot manufacturing plant (Jymbolcká motorárna - the Gablonz engine plant) - the former Liaz sro company in Gablonz on the Neisse . The engine plant became part of the Tedom sro company as an independent engine division. Subsequently, the production of low-floor city buses began in 2004 and the prototype of the Tedom brand city bus , which is equipped with a Tedom engine for the combustion of pressure Natural gas (CNG) was provided. In the same year, the thousandth Tedom brand combined heat and power unit was also manufactured.

In 2005 the new line of MICRO combined heat and power units was launched on the market.

In 2006 a new manufacturing plant of the Tedom company was officially opened in Třebíč, where the assembly of the city's low-floor buses began. Tedom also built trucks and engines for the modernization of rail cars, which were upgraded from the 810 series to the 814 standard.

In 2008, the two thousandth Tedom brand block-type thermal power station was installed. This year the Tedom-Holding was split into two parts: 25% of the assets went to the TTS-Energiegenerationsholding, 75% remained in the Tedom Holding for the development and production of energy technologies. The former company was separated after a shareholder resolution in favor of the partner Richard Horký, who has thus left Tedom; The value of this deal was 60 million crowns. From this point on, Tedom devotes itself exclusively to the production of plant technology.

In 2010 the companies Tedom sro; Tedom Energo sro; Tedom CHP sro; Jesenická tepelná Gesellschaft sro and Tedom Holding sro founded the joint stock company Tedom as.

The company ČEZ Energo sro has been operating on the Czech market as the operator of a so-called combined power plant since 2011. This currently consists of almost 100 combined heat and power plants with a total output of more than 72 MW and is operated by the companies ČEZ as and Tedom as. Tedom's share is 49.9%.

In 2012 the production of city buses was stopped. At the same time, a new product - the Polo 100 gas heat pump - was developed, which received an innovation award as “Czech Energy and Environment Project of the Year” a year later. In the same year, Tedom signed a contract for the supply and service of cogeneration units with the largest energy supplier in the Czech Republic, the company ČEZ: within five years, Tedom will supply more than 100 cogeneration units with a total electrical output of more than 100 MW.

In 2013 an extensive overseas project was completed in Sydney , Australia . Tedom built two power, heating and cooling centers with a total electrical output of 11.8 MW.

In 2016 Tedom took 52nd place in the competition of Czech companies “Českých 100 nejlepších” (One Hundred Best in the Czech Republic). In this ranking, Tedom has regularly appeared among the top hundred Czech companies since 2013.

In 2016 Tedom celebrated the 25th anniversary of its existence and produced more than 3500 Tedom block heating power plants. In cooperation with the American company Tecogen Inc., the joint venture TTCogen was founded for the sale of Tedom combined heat and power plants in the USA . The share of the tedom is 50%. In the same year, Tedom also acquired the German company Schnell Motoren - one of the largest manufacturers of biogas block-type thermal power stations. Tedom took over the company's assets and its 300 employees, the production facility in Wangen and an extensive service network. In the same year Tedom won a prize from HSBC Bank and was the winner of the HSBC International Business Award competition.

In 2017, Tedom and other companies in which Tedom is involved began to operate together as the Tedom Group. The following companies are united in this group of companies: Tedom as, Schnell GmbH, TTCogen Ltd. and ČEZ energo sro The aim of the group members is to provide mutual support in the production and operation of energy-efficient systems for combined electricity and heat generation and to operate on foreign markets.

In 2018 the TTCogen joint venture was dissolved. Tedom continues to operate in the US through its subsidiary Tedom USA Inc.

vehicle construction

In 2004 Tedom began to manufacture urban low-floor buses with natural gas engines. The company acquired the necessary know-how by purchasing licenses from the Italian manufacturer Mauri. After the companies Karosa (from 2007 Iveco Czech Republic ) and SOR Libchava , Tedom became the third bus manufacturer in the Czech Republic in 2004. In connection with this line of business, a new plant was created in Třebíč . Instead of the originally planned thousand units, only around 200 buses were delivered mainly to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Germany. In January 2012, Tedom decided to stop production due to a lack of orders.

In 2006, Tedom Truck sro was founded as a subsidiary . This company connected to the truck production of the LIAZ company . It was the LIAZ 300 and LIAZ 400 models. The associated know-how was acquired with the acquisition of the engine plant in Jablonec nad Nisou / Gablonz on the Neisse. The company started selling trucks under the Tedom brand. Both trucks with diesel engines (Tedom-D) and with gas engines (Tedom-G) were offered. However, only 19 trucks were delivered and in 2009 the company was liquidated by resolution of the shareholders' meeting.
