The tedrive Holding BV , established on 30 April 2007, was created from the acquisition of four locations of Visteon Corp. through Special Situations Venture Partners II, (SSVP II) a private equity fund. The holding company , based in Heerlen in the Netherlands , had operating locations in Düren and Wülfrath , Praszka (Poland) and São Paulo (Brazil). Drive shafts, differentials and steering systems for the automotive industry were produced . By resolution of the shareholders on August 9, 2010, the holding company was dissolved at the end of August 31, 2010.

Insolvency of the German works

According to a press release dated December 10, 2008, the German locations in Wülfrath and Düren applied for insolvency proceedings to be opened with the Aachen district court . Neither the locations in Brazil or Poland nor the holding company in the Netherlands were aiming for bankruptcy at this time and, according to Tedrive, continued their business to the normal extent. At that time, the plants in Germany employed around 1,500 people.

The insolvency proceedings were opened on March 1, 2009 by the Aachen District Court. The activities led to the fact that the Wülfrath plant gained independence as Tedrive Steering Systems GmbH . The Düren plant was bought by the US investor Neapco and has been operating under the name Neapco Europe ever since .

Plants in Brazil and Poland

The plant in Brazil, tedrive Sistemas de Chassis do Brasil Ltda , became the property of NTN Corporation on June 1, 2011 . The Poland plant in Praszka is now also owned by Neapco Europe.

On June 1, 2016, it was announced that the company would be taken over by Knorr-Bremse AG .

History of the Wülfrath location

From 1924 to 1952, the Hebmüller and Sons company manufactured the Hebmüller Cabriolet in what was then the body shop . The factory was taken over by Ford in 1956 , and from 1957 the site produced pressed and forged parts. Since a restructuring in 1971, the plant has been manufacturing steering systems, stub axles and swivel bearings. Initially, only machine fitters were trained in the training workshop, which was opened in 1984. From 1992 power steering systems were assembled at the site, and in 1997 the manufacture of steering valves started. With the outsourcing of the components business by Ford at the end of the 1990s, the automotive supplier Visteon GmbH was created in 2000 , to which the steering plant in Wülfrath also belonged.

In May 2007 Visteon sold the European chassis business to a private equity company and the tedrive group was founded. This also included Wülfrather tedrive Steering GmbH. Due to the financial and automotive crisis, the company found itself in bankruptcy in 2009. After the end of the insolvency proceedings, the Wülfrath location became independent as tedrive Steering Systems GmbH . Due to the expiry of the Ford Focus steering, short-time work is due in 2011/2012.

Awards

In the course of the “Factory of the Year 2001” industry competition, the location received the “Outstanding Improvement Dynamics” award. For the development of the steel housing, the plant was also awarded first place in the “German Steel Innovation Prize 2006” in the “Steel Products” category.
