history

The Tekrum-Werk Theodor Krumm GmbH & Co. KG in Ravensburg was one of the leading manufacturers of fine and ice-cream specialties in Germany. The company's roots lie in Café Krumm, which Theodor and Maria Krumm opened on December 17, 1897 in the building at Bachstrasse 28 in Ravensburg. Theodor Krumm was born in Grötzingen in 1871 as the son of the bakers Josef and Maria Krumm . Before the café opened in Ravensburg, he did an apprenticeship and subsequent years of traveling a. a. Herrenberg , Heilbronn , Heidelberg and Speyer , where he met his wife. The café in Ravensburg, elegantly furnished in the style of a Viennese coffee house , had its own bakery , confectionery , coffee distillery and two pool tables.

The café was taken over by pastry chef Richard Rehfuß in 1928. In 1911 Theodor Krumm invented his macaroon. In 1912 the company was appointed purveyor to the Württemberg court, and the Tekrum brand was created. In 1913 the first factory was built as part of the successfully marketed Krumm almond macaroons. At the end of the First World War, Café Krumm was sold due to poor development due to a lack of raw materials and the effects of the First World War. In 1925 a new factory was built on the outskirts of Ravensburg in Ziegelstrasse and the product range was expanded to include ice cream cone specialties.

Due to the successful waffle production, the factory was expanded in 1928 to include a waffle bakery. The first baking line was set up in 1937. As with the First World War, the company's successful development was also interrupted by the Second World War. In 1949 the existing plant was expanded. The company founder Theodor Krumm died in 1968. After various legal forms, the company operated under the name Tekrum-Werk Theodor Krumm GmbH & Co KG from 1974. In 1987 the property in Schwanenstrasse was acquired. Step by step, production was relocated from Ziegelstraße to a factory in Schwanenstraße, which was expanded several times. Since October 2001, all parts of the company have been in Schwanenstrasse.

In 1997 it was run as a family business owned by various branches of the Krumm family. In 1997 Griesson - de Beukelaer (GdB) took a 50 percent stake in Tekrum. At the end of the 1990s, Tekrum had a turnover of around 40 million euros with 350 employees, and in 2004 with 300 employees 26 million euros. Tekrum also produced for various third-party brands. In February 2005, Griesson - de Beukelaer also took over the remaining shares with retroactive effect from January 1, 2005. After the takeover, Tekrum disappeared as a company - the brand name was retained. Since then, however, around a third of the classic Tekrum products, including the almond macaroon, have no longer been manufactured. The well-known Tekrum waffles are no longer manufactured under the name "Tekrum", but under the umbrella brand "de Beukelaer" by Griesson-de Beukelaer.

The Ravensburg site was run as the Griesson - de Beukelaer Werk Ravensburg . At that time, over 280 employees produced premium confectionery products under the Tekrum brand and, from 2006 to 2012, also under the Mövenpick brand . A nationwide television campaign for the Tekrum brand was launched for the first time in 2006. The production of the traditional "Tekrum almond macaroons " was discontinued in 2007. Around 100 jobs had been cut by the end of 2015.

At the turn of the year 2015/2016, the sale of Tekrum to the Swiss biscuit manufacturer Kambly became known. The handover took place on January 1, 2017 after restructuring in 2016. The 169 remaining employees have been producing pastries under the Kambly and Tekrum brands since then.
