Tell - The Musical is a musical by Marc Schubring (music), Wolfgang Adenberg (lyrics), Hans Dieter Schreeb (book) and John Havu (creative development) based on the drama Wilhelm Tell by Friedrich Schiller . It was developed by Gallissas Verlag for the Walensee stage in Walenstadt . The musical builds on Schiller's drama, but adds additional elements and shows the protagonists, contrary to the usual portrayal as young men.

action

The Habsburgs oppress the people of the Waldstätte on Lake Lucerne . Johann Parricida , the Duke of Swabia, stays here to oversee the services of the governors on behalf of his uncle, King Albrecht . He is invited to his castle by the notorious Bailiff Gessler . Also guests are the young, free-thinking noblewoman Bertha von Bruneck and Ulrich von Rudenz, the nephew of the dying Freiherr von Attinghausen from Uri. Attinghausen is worried because his nephew is in the service of the Habsburgs. Ulrich von Rudenz hopes that young Bertha will be respected and favored. But she implores Ulrich von Rudenz to take the side of his people.

The tyranny is becoming more and more brutal and so the representatives of Uri , Schwyz and Unterwalden call for an uprising. They meet secretly with allies on the Rütli to renew their old covenant. When Tell's father-in-law, Walther Fürst , tries to win Tell over to her cause, Tell vehemently refuses. However, in times of need he is there for you. For now, however, for his family and himself. Tell shows courage and independence in his own way. When he refuses to salute a hat on behalf of the authorities, Gessler forces him to shoot an apple from his son's head. Gertrud Stauffacher pleads for mercy for Tell, and even Ulrich von Rudenz now sees Gessler's injustice. Tell hits Gessler with the second arrow in Hohlen Gasse and kills him.

His death is the signal for the uprising. Ulrich von Rudenz decides in time for his people and thus wins Bertha's love. Meanwhile, King Albrecht is sneakily murdered by his nephew Johann. After the deed, Johann, as a fugitive monk, seeks mercy from Tell of all people. But Tell harshly rejects him. When the compatriots come to celebrate Tell as a hero, he refuses to pay homage. Tell becomes a symbol of independence and freedom.
