Tell monument in Altdorf

The most well known Telldenkmal is in the town square of Altdorf , before Türmli (coordinates:. 46.88181 °  N , 8.64389 °  O )

The bronze statue of Richard Kissling was inaugurated on August 28, 1895 at the foot of an old tower. It shows the Swiss national hero with shouldered crossbow accompanied by his son Walter. On the pedestal is the traditional date of the Rütli oath , 1307. The background image on the tower comes from the painter Hans Sandreuter .

Behind the two statues, the following inscription is placed on a large bronze plate:
One will tell of the shooter Tell
So Long The mountains stand on their bottom.

A competition was announced for the creation of the statue, and Kissling emerged as the winner. He was allowed to execute the statue, but had to rework it according to the client's wishes. The second prize went to Robert Dorer , the third to Raimondo Pereda , and the fourth to Gustav Siber.

Figure of Walther Tell at the House of Switzerland

At the House of Switzerland in Berlin a figure of Walther Tell was attached. Originally, a figure of Wilhelm Tell was to be installed on the building, which was completed in 1936. The responsible administrative authorities in the Third Reich had forbidden a representation of the freedom fighter, so that a figure of Wilhelm Tell's son, Walther Tell was installed as a compromise.
