history
The foundation walls of the tower date from the middle of the 13th century. Originally, the building served as a residential tower for a local feudal lord. In 1517 it became the property of the Uri estate. Soon afterwards, the government had Uri's first mechanical clock installed in the tower. The tower increasingly became a sovereign building with a wide range of functions.
The Tell monument has stood on a plinth in front of the Türmli since 1895 . It is the work of the then highly regarded Solothurn sculptor Richard Kissling .
In 2011 the interior of the tower was extensively renovated. The monument can be visited freely and free of charge.
