Tellurium hydrogen , also known as monotellan , is a chemical compound of tellurium and hydrogen and is a very toxic, easily condensable gas .
Extraction and presentation
It is produced by electrolytic reduction of tellurium at the cathode in 50% sulfuric acid or by protolysis of salt-like tellurides in acids , such as the reaction of aluminum telluride with hydrochloric acid :
properties
Tellurium hydrogen has an unpleasant garlic-like odor like arsine . The gas is easily soluble in water, decomposes in the air and burns with a bluish flame to tellurium dioxide and water . Hydro telluric acid , which is moderately strong and unstable due to oxidation, is formed in water . The dissociation constants pKa 1 and pKa 2 are 2.64 and 8.80, respectively.
Tellurium hydrogen is angled (bond angle 89.5 °), the bond length Te – H is 169 pm in each case .
