Temerin ( Serbian - Cyrillic Темерин ) is a town in the Okrug Južna Bačka in Vojvodina , Serbia , with almost 20,000 inhabitants. It is the administrative seat of the Opština Temerin , which has around 28,000 inhabitants (2011 census). With a third of the population, the Magyars are the largest minority.
geography
Temerin is in the northeast of the Batschka . In the east is Žabalj , in the north Srbobran , in the west Vrbas and Sirig and in the south Novi Sad . The Jegrička River flows to the north of the city and a canal runs through the city.
The two highways 102 (Novosadska) and 112 (Čaki Lajoša) cross right in the center of Temerin. The distance to the Budapest - Novi Sad motorway ( European route 75 ) is 13 km in both western and southern directions. The station, which opened in 1899, has since been closed.
Trivia
Magdalena Müller, the grandmother of the Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz , comes from Jarek and was born in Temerin. She and her family were evicted at the end of the war .
