The Temnik ( Russian Темник , Buryat Тэмнэг ) is a left tributary of the Selenga in the Russian Republic of Buryatia in Siberia .
The Temnik rises in the Chamar-Daban mountain range south of Lake Baikal . It flows through the mountains between the Chamar-Daban in the north and the Little Chamar-Daban ( Малый Хамар-Дабан ) in the south in an easterly direction. The Temnik finally reaches the Selenga. It joins a side arm of the Selenga, so that the actual mouth of the Temnik is several kilometers downstream. The drain of the Gussinojesees flows into this branch of the river on the left. The Temnik has a length of 314 km. It drains an area of 5480 km². The mean discharge (MQ) 59 km above the mouth is 29 m³ / s. The Temnik is ice-free between May and October. In the months of May to September the river is usually flooded .
