Teri DeSario (born November 27, 1951 in Miami , Florida ) is an American singer .

Career

Teri DeSario was born and raised in Miami. During her school days she made the acquaintance of Harry Wayne "KC" Casey, who in the 1970s, with the group KC and the Sunshine Band, was to have a decisive influence on the disco sound. In high school, DeSario gained his first experience as a singer. She also dealt with Renaissance and early Baroque music and devoted herself to folk music as a musician . Eventually she completed a degree in jazz and experimental music of the 20th century.

DeSario received a recording contract in 1978 with the label Casablanca Records, which was particularly successful in the disco sector at the time . The debut single Ain't Nothing Gonna Keep Me From You , written and produced by Barry Gibb ( Bee Gees ), narrowly failed to make it into the top 40 in the USA, but developed into a disco classic and is still featured on countless compilations as such released. The corresponding LP Pleasure Train failed to make the leap into the hit lists. This work contains various original compositions by DeSario in collaboration with her then husband, the musician Bill Purse. The second release The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of was a success in the American disco charts (number 41). The singer was also very popular in Asia and Latin America in those days.

The 1979 album Moonlight Madness was the only LP of her career to make it into the Billboard Top 200 (# 80). The work, recorded again for Casablanca, was produced by her old friend Harry Wayne "KC" Casey and contains DeSario's biggest hit in the USA with their duo Yes, I'm Ready . This remake of an old Barbara Mason hit sold over a million times and was also a chart success in the Netherlands and New Zealand. Another single with KC, Dancin 'In The Streets (a remake of the Martha & the Vandellas hit) could not build on this success.

DeSario's last record for Casablanca, Caught , moved away from the disco sound of those days and was more oriented towards pop and rock. Among other things, it includes a Beatles cover ( I Should Have Known Better ), a Desmond Child composition ( I'm With You Now ) and various original compositions. Production was done by Bill Purse and again Harry Wayne "KC" Casey. The guitar-heavy title track was released as a single - it was not a success. Then DeSario lost her record deal.

In the following years she more or less gave up her mainstream career and devoted herself to gospel and Christian pop music . For the LP Voices In The Wind she was nominated for a Grammy in early 1986 in the category "Best Gospel Performance - Female". In the following years she continued to work in the music business, recordings of her only appeared sporadically. Your singing voice is among others on the sampler Truth & Light: Music from The X-Files (1996) to the popular television series The X-Files to hear.

DeSario has lived in Germany since 1997 with her husband, a pastor. She leads three choirs and works as a freelance artist and singing teacher in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. In this area she also performs with the Terri DeSario Band and a jazz program.
