Terry Cox

Terence William Harvey "Terry" Cox (born March 13, 1937 in High Wycombe , Buckinghamshire ) is a British folk jazz drummer .

Live and act

After lessons with Jack Peach, Cox played with Michael Garrick from 1960 , then with Lenny Felix and Sandy Brown . In the mid-1960s he was part of Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated , recorded with Duffy's Nucleus by Duffy Power and was in the house band of Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club . With Danny Thompson , he moved from Korner to the folk band Pentangle in 1967 , to which he belonged until their (temporary) breakup in 1973. He also played with Benny Carter and Barney Kessel as well as with Roger Webb (1970) and the orchestra of Bobby Lamb and Ray Premru (1971). He was also involved in recordings of The Humblebums , Bert Jansch and John Renbourn as well as Shirley Collins , Dana Gillespie and David Bowie . Between 1974 and 1982 he was part of Charles Aznavour's band , but was also a session musician for Ashton & Lord and Elton John . A traffic accident in 1982 affected Cox for many years. Since Pentangle was re-founded in 1985, he was part of the band again until 1990, with which he went on tour again in 2008.

In the jazz area Terry Cox recorded with Ray Warleigh (1969), Harold McNair (1970), Cleo Laine (1976) and Digby Fairweather (2002). His compositions are also interpreted by Grover Washington and Spyro Gyra .

Today he lives in Menorca , where he runs a restaurant with his wife and is active with local bands.
