The Tesa ( Russian Теза ) is a 192 km long left tributary of the Kljasma in the European part of Russia .

course

The Tesa rises in the northern Oblast Ivanovo , near the settlement of Solotilowo . The source is only 12 km south of the Volga . Instead of flowing directly to the river, however, the river initially turns south. In the upper reaches the river is on average six to seven meters wide and flows strongly meandering in a 200–700 m wide floodplain , the bank height here is eight to ten meters.

After the confluence of the Parscha , the width of the Tesa increases to around 20 m. It continues to flow in mainly southerly directions and eventually reaches Shuja . From here the river is navigable. After the confluence of the Ljulech , the Tesa turns to the east. The now 30–50 m wide course of the river is regulated here by five locks . The height of the embankment is 20-25 m, in some places 40-50 m.

At the village of Cholui, the Tesa turns south again. The width of the floodplain increases here to five to six kilometers. A little later the Tesa reaches the Kljasma and flows into it from the left directly at the border with the Vladimir Oblast .

Hydrology and use

The tape is frozen on average by the end of November / beginning of December. The breaking of the ice in April coincides with the annual spring floods , which last until May. The river, which is mainly fed by snowmelt water, is navigable 87 km from Schuja and is popular with boaters .
