history

In the 18th and 19th centuries, the village, now only known as Jakowlewskoje , developed into an important center of linen weaving .
In 1938 the village and several surrounding workers' settlements near textile factories were united and received city rights as Privolschsk . The name is not derived directly from the location on (or on this side) the Volga (Russian pri Volge ) - this is about 15 kilometers away, but from the name of the most important linen weaving mill Privolschskaja Kommuna ( Volga commune ) at the time.
