Furmanow ( Russian Фурманов ) is a city in the Ivanovo Oblast ( Russia ) with 36,144 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located about 35 km northeast of the Oblast capital Ivanovo on the Shacha , a right tributary of the Volga .
Furmanow is administratively directly subordinate to the Oblast and at the same time the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .
The town lies on the 1898 consistently opened railway Yaroslavl -Iwanowo as taught herein a freight branch line to Volgorechensk and local thermal power plant Kostroma branches. The R600 (Yaroslavl–) Kostroma –Iwanowo (- Wladimir ) trunk road (until 2017 also A113) leads east around Furmanow .
history
The village of Sereda-Upino was known in the area of the present city since the 1620s . In 1918 this was combined with several surrounding workers' settlements that were built near textile factories in the 19th century to form the city of Sereda .
On May 13, 1941, the name was changed to Furmanow in honor of the writer who was born here.

Culture and sights
The Cathedral of Our Lady Mourning ( собор Скорбящей Божией Матери / sobor Skorbjashchei Boschijei Materi) has been preserved in Furmanov from 1886 to 1897.
