Tess Wiley (born Elisabeth Wiley on November 9, 1974 in Houston ) is an American musician who lives in Giessen ( Germany ).

Life

Tess Wiley was born to Grammy winner, producer, musician and arranger Fletch Wiley and writer and poet Kathryn Wiley. She showed an early interest in music and composing and learned to play the piano at the age of five - the violin at the age of twelve - and to play the guitar at fourteen .

While attending the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts with a major in piano, she was the lead singer of the band Nothing In Return, which, however, in contrast to her classical music education, focused on heavy metal .

During her studies at the University of Texas at Austin , she turned to the more tranquil folk-rock style as a singer-songwriter , with individual songs also being influenced by Americana or pop . She came to Sweden on a scholarship and, inspired by her classical education, spent time in Austria.

She moved to Giessen through her marriage to the journalist as well as music and video director Christian Roth . The marriage has two sons. In addition to her work as a singer-songwriter and the corresponding concerts, she teaches music and English.

Career

After Tess Wiley was the front woman of the band Nothing In Return during her apprenticeship, she worked as guitarist with the band Sixpence None the Richer during their European and American tour between 1994 and 1995 and wrote the song Disconnect for their record This Beautiful Mess . Wiley left the band shortly after the American tour and began recording their songs under various names such as Splendora , Phantasmic and Tess Wiley and her Orchestra .

In addition to working with artists such as Paul Bryan (Aimee Mann), Jay Bellerose (Elvis Costello), Dirk Darmstaedter, Gregor McEwan and Stefan Stoppok and the band Velor 100, she has been releasing her CDs under the name Tess Wiley since 2001 .
