TesseracT is a British progressive metal - band .

history

Actually intended as a solo project, Acle Kahney founded the band TesseracT in 2003. After a few attempts to record a demo , however, he rejected the idea again. In spring 2006 Acle Kahney reported back with a new line-up ; consisting of guitarist James Monteith, bassist Amos Williams and drummer Jay Postones. The first demo followed in the same year, followed by performances at Hammerfest , Bloodstock Open Air and the Hellfire Festival .

In early 2009, singer Dan Tompkins joined the band. In addition, the song Lament appeared on the enclosed CD of the Metal Hammer issue from November 2009.

In 2010 the band signed a contract with the German record label Century Media . At the end of October 2010 she released her first EP , Concealing Fate , which should give a foretaste of the upcoming album, which would be released in 2011. Following the release of the first EP, the band made a small tour of North America , in which Devin Townsend also took part.

In addition, the song Nascent appeared on the enclosed DVD of Metal Hammer in the April 2011 issue.

On March 18, 2011, the first album was released - One . In addition to a normal version, a limited digipak with CD and DVD was also released.

Another EP called Perspective was released on May 21, 2012, on which five songs are included: With Dream Brother, a cover of the song by Jeff Buckley and four songs from the album One , which were re-recorded with the new singer Elliot Coleman and, except for Eden 2.0 , were played acoustically. There is also a deluxe version of Perspective , on which all songs of the normal version are also included as instrumental versions.

On June 12, 2012, TesseracT announced that Coleman had left the band:

“Unfortunately, our good friend Elliot has decided to leave Team TesseracT. We want to thank Elliot for everything he has done for us. We loved having him as part of this 'beast'. He introduced us to a completely different side of our sound, as well the delights of Pho! These are things we will always be grateful for. So while we are writing and recording album 2 we are still looking for that one special person who will become the new full-time singer at TesseracT. "

On September 7th, 2012 TesseracT announced that they had found a new but still secret singer and that they were releasing the new single Nocturne on October 12th, 2012. Various shows in Europe were also announced, including at the Euroblast Festival .

It was later revealed that the new singer was Ashe O'Hara of the band Voices From The Fuselage . TesseracT announced this in a small blog post:

“We know the search for a new singer seemed to take forever, but we wanted to be sure we could find someone who would be a perfect fit for us both on stage and in the studio. And Ashe is just that someone. We are particularly pleased about the support and patience that our fans have shown us and look forward to the next TESSERACT chapter. "

On December 15, 2012, guitarist James Monteith announced in an interview with Gothestro Radio that they were planning the release of the second album for spring 2013. He also said the second album would be a lot more melodic than the previous releases. TesseracT said Altered State will be softer and more jazz and folk influences than One .

On February 28, 2013, the May 27, 2013 release date was announced, a track list and a tour of the UK with The Algorithm and Enochian Theory prior to release. The album is a 51-minute flowing piece, which has been divided into four large sections ( Of Matter , Of Mind , Of Reality , Of Energy ). Each section contains several tracks. The cover of the album was also revealed.

On June 27, 2014, the band announced the split from singer Ashe O'Hara via Facebook. Daniel Tompkins, who was part of the band from 2009 to 2011, is named as the new singer.

The third album, called Polaris , was released on September 18, 2015 on the KScope label.

On February 8, 2018, the release date of the new album Sonder (April 20, 2018) was published together with the corresponding track Luminary . Cover and tracklist were also announced. The album consists of seven songs and includes a revised version of Smile , a single that was released on June 23, 2017.

Surname

Tesseract is the English word for tesseract , a four-dimensional hypercube. In an interview, the band said they weren't particularly interested in mathematics; Acle Kahney came up with the name when he saw an episode of the documentary series Our Cosmos in which Carl Sagan explained the fourth dimension.
