Tuska Open Air Metal Festival
The Tuska Open Air Metal Festival , also briefly Tuska called (. Fi, pain ') is a Finnish summer - music festival , in which mainly metal bands occur. It takes place every summer in Kaisaniemi Park in central Helsinki and lasts for a weekend.
The festival, which has existed since 1998, took place on the second weekend of July each year until 2005, but was then brought forward by two weeks. In 2006 it was from June 30th to July 2nd, in 2007 the festival took place from June 29th to July 1st. In 2008 it took place from June 27th to 29th. The location was also relocated, originally as a two-day festival in the meanwhile demolished Vr: n Makasiinit , Tuska 2001 became a three-day festival in Kaisaniemi Park, just a few hundred meters away on the other side of the main train station . In 2011 the festival was not only postponed to the third weekend in July, but the venue was also changed again. The tuska will now take place in Suvilahti , a former energy production site in Sörnäinen . Due to the location slightly outside the city center at the Kalasatama metro station , it was possible for the first time to leave the site and then re-enter it later.
Around 32 bands, mostly of Nordic origin, appear every year on the now three open-air stages (Radio Rock, Inferno and Sue) in Kaisaniemi Park. In 2011, a small club stage was set up in a factory building at the new location , on which mainly bands from the genres of black metal and grindcore perform. Afterwards, about as many mostly exclusively Finnish bands play in various clubs that are spread across the central parts of Helsinki, for example in Tavastia , Nosturi , Gloria, Virgin Oil, DOM, Inferno or, after the relocation, in the warehouses of the Vr: n Makasiinit.
The Tuska is one of the biggest metal festivals. Since 2005 there have always been around 30,000 spectators. In 2008 the festival was sold out weeks in advance. In 2009 and 2011 around 28,000 visitors came. In 2010 the festival was sold out with 33,000 visitors.
