Tetracosane ( n -Tetracosane ) is a long-chain, unbranched and saturated alkane . It is one of the few organic compounds that occur naturally as a mineral . This mineral is called Evenkite and was discovered in 1953 in the area of the Lower Tunguska River in Siberia .
description
Pure tetracosane is colorless, but can take on a yellowish-green to yellowish-white color due to foreign admixtures. It has the empirical formula C 24 H 50 corresponding to [(CH 3 ) 2 (CH 2 ) 22 ] and thus belongs to the hydrocarbons , more precisely to the chain alkanes . The crystal system is monoclinic.
