Devil's Table (Lemberg)
The Teufelstisch von Salzwoog (local community Lemberg ) is a striking mushroom rock in the German part of the Wasgau , the southern Palatinate Forest ( Rhineland-Palatinate ). The rock formation is 5 km southwest of the larger and much better known Teufelstal in Hinterweidenthal , which also has the more impressive "table shape".
geography
The rock is 320 m above sea level. NHN on the northwest slope of the wooded west runner of the 400 m high Bichtenberg . To the north of it extends the floodplain of the Salzbach , a right tributary of the Wieslauter , which flows from west to east . There also runs the state road 486, which leads from Lemberg via Salzwoog to Hinterweidenthal. From the valley, the Salzwooger Teufelstisch can be reached on a narrow footpath that branches off from the hiking trail to Dahn and overcomes an altitude difference of around 80 m. Above the rock there is a rest area that offers a panoramic view of the Salzbachaue.
geology
When Teufelstisch of Salzwoog is like its "big brother" of Hinterweidenthal a red sandstone rock, reminiscent of a legged table. The softer surface components surrounding it were removed by erosion , while the hard rock core remained. So now an oversized "table top" lies across an equally massive "table base".
Particularly in the Dahner Felsenland , as the region beginning to the east is called, such strikingly shaped rocks are quite common.
tourism
The rock is included as the final destination in a circular hike of the Palatinate hiking portal.
