Textile design

Textile design or textile design is the conscious, changing influence on the aesthetic appearance of textile materials and objects. It concerns both the design of textile materials as well as the design with textile materials by means of selected technology, material and color. Textile design is used in the field of fine arts and applied arts, such as fashion, and is a school and training subject.

Areas of textile design

Textile design makes use of cultural and handicraft techniques in the textile sector as a design basis .

Processing of textile surfaces (mainly by sewing them together)
Surface design of textile surfaces and three-dimensional textile bodies

Textile design as a training / study

Textile design is compulsory taught in Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland already in elementary school, in conjunction with handicraft lessons . It is taught as a subject at universities , art colleges and technical academies. In Bavaria, further training takes place at the ISB .
