Théo Kerg

Théo Kerg (born June 2, 1909 in Niederkorn , Luxembourg ; † March 4, 1993 in Chissey-en-Morvan , Burgundy , France) was a Luxembourg painter , graphic artist , sculptor and glass designer .

Life

Kerg studied from 1929 to 1932 at the École supérieure des beaux-arts and at the Sorbonne in Paris. Kerg then became a student of Paul Klee and Oskar Moll at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , who were dismissed there in 1933. From 1934 to 1936 he became a member of the Abstraction-Création group in Paris. In 1941 Kerg was appointed professor for art education at the industrial and commercial school in Esch-sur-Alzette . In 1957 Kerg accepted a call from the Werkkunstschule Kassel and worked there as a visiting professor until 1965 .

Théo Kerg was the founder of the art direction tactilism .

The Theo Kerg Museum in Schriesheim ( Baden-Württemberg ) has existed since 1989 . Shortly before his death, he decided to bequeath his work to the city of Schriesheim. The works are presented in a permanent exhibition over three floors in a restored half-timbered building in the middle of Schriesheim's old town.
