The Blue Van or TBV is a four-piece Danish rock band . By using their song Independence as the theme song of the American television series Royal Pains , they also became known beyond Denmark. The group's songs found use in series such as Navy CIS , 90210 and Countdown - The Hunt Begins .
history
The Blue Van was founded in the early 2000s by four school friends in Brønderslev, Denmark . In Denmark the band name refers to the ambulances that take patients to psychiatric hospitals. Their main influences include the classic rock of the 1960s from groups such as The Kinks , Cream or The Pretty Things . Several self-produced singles followed until the band moved to Copenhagen in 2003 . There she aroused the interest of the Copenhagen independent label Iceberg Records, which she signed and released the EP Beatsellers , recorded in Hamburg in 2004 . The airplay on various college radio stations in the USA aroused the interest of the New York independent label TVT Records , which signed the band in the summer of 2004. While Iceberg Records continued to act as artist agency and management , TVT took over the worldwide release and distribution of the albums. In April 2005 the debut album The Art of Rolling was released by TVT, which contained seven other tracks in addition to the five tracks on the EP. That summer, The Blue Van went on tour with Hot Hot Heat . In autumn 2006 the second album Dear Independence was released in Europe and worldwide in February 2007. This was followed by a tour in the opening act for Electric Six . As a result of The Orchard's takeover of TVT , the record deal ended and Iceberg Records resumed sole release of The Blue Van's albums. After the release of the 2008 album Man Up , the band gained national fame when their song Independence became the theme song of the television series Royal Pains . The fourth album Love Shot was released in 2010 and reached number 17 on the Danish album charts. During the 2010 Academy Awards , the first performance of the commercial for the iPad took place, for which The Blue Van provided the soundtrack with There Goes My Love . In autumn 2012 the fifth studio album Would You Change Your Life was released .
