production

The Bridge was a production by EOne Entertainment , 990 Multi Media Entertainment Company and Jonsworth Productions for the Canadian broadcaster CTV and the US broadcaster CBS . The two-hour pilot, episodes 1 and 2, was ordered by CTV in 2008 , and CBS joined in, as with Flashpoint . The film was shot in Toronto . The production was sponsored by the Canadian Television Fund .

The Bridge was inspired by the controversial former Toronto Police Union chief Craig Bromell, who also served as one of the executive producers. As an alienation effect, The Bridge takes place in an unspecified city.

Initially, CTV ordered a second season before the US broadcast, but later the series was discontinued without further consequences due to production problems and the exit of the US partner CBS .

Charisma

The broadcast in Canada on CTV took place from March 5 to May 21, 2010. The first broadcast of the first double episode won both time slots with a million viewers.

It premiered on July 10, 2010 on CBS . The US premiere flopped despite good US reviews, which is attributed, among other things, to the programming on Saturday evening. A press release from the Canadian TV Foreign Ministry, faked by TV by the Numbers , said that the broadcast on Saturday violated international TV etiquette . This press release was reproduced in part without comment. Due to the poor ratings, CBS stopped broadcasting The Bridge after the third episode.

The German-language first broadcast took place from September 3 to 12, 2012 on the pay-TV channel 13th Street .

reception

The pilot episode received good reviews for the actors and the production, but the plot is described as overloaded, especially for the length of two (television) hours.

In US reviews, The Bridge and Flashpoint are praised for the non-Canadian look and the Canadian production method.
