Michael Murphy (born May 5, 1938 in Los Angeles ) is an American actor .

Life and accomplishments

Michael Murphy's father, Bearl Branton Murphy, was a salesman. His mother, Georgia Arlyn Murphy, was a teacher. Michael Murphy served in the United States Marine Corps , then studied at the University of Arizona and the University of California . From 1962 to 1964 he worked as an English teacher in Los Angeles.

Murphy made his debut in 1963 on the television series Combat! In the musical comedy Zoff for Two (1967) he starred alongside Elvis Presley . In the fantasy comedy Only Flying Is Better (1970) he played one of the bigger roles alongside Sally Kellerman .

In the comedy Manhattan (1979) he played the role of Yale , a friend of Isaac Davis ( Woody Allen ). In the war drama Salvador (1986) by Oliver Stone , he played the passed out ambassador Thomas Kelly . For his two appearances on the television series This Is Wonderland , he won the Gemini Award in 2004 and 2005 .

Murphy has been married to Wendy Crewson since 1988 and has two children.
