The Civilization of the American Indian

The Civilization of the American Indian is a comprehensive English-language scientific book series on the culture of Indians in America . William Bizzell (1876–1946), President of the University of Oklahoma (OU) since 1925 , and Joseph A. Brandt, Press Director of the Tulsa Tribune and also President of the OU from 1941, founded the series in 1932 in Norman , Oklahoma University of Oklahoma Press . The series is thematically broad and numerous scholars have published in it. Savoie Lottinville (1906–1997) emphasizes in his review of the series that little attention was paid to the American Indian between Cooper's leather sock cycle and La Farge's Laughing Boy .
