The Devil Dancer is an American romantic film drama directed by Fred Niblo from 1927. The silent film , which was recognized in its time for its excellent camera work and the use of light and shadow effects, is considered lost .

action

The white Takla is an orphan who grew up in a monastery in the Himalayas , which she is not allowed to leave as an adult. She is freed by the British adventurer Stephen Athelstan. Athelstan falls in love with Takla, but his sister wants to prevent her brother's connection with the "devil dancer". She has Takla kidnapped. Athelstan searches in vain for Takla for a long time, until he finally finds her with a group of wandering Muslim artists. It comes to a happy ending.

The Devil Dancer was initially directed by Alfred Raboch and assistant director Lynn Shores . Shores later became the film's director and Raboch's assistant. Eventually, Niblo took over the direction and completed the film.

The Devil Dancer premiered in Los Angeles on November 3, 1927 and was released in theaters on November 19.

Awards

George Barnes was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography at the first Academy Awards in 1929 for this film, The Magic Flame (1927) and ... But The Meat Is Weak (1928) .
