The House is the fourth studio album by Georgian - British singer Katie Melua .
history
Unlike the previous albums, it was not Melua's discoverer and manager Mike Batt who produced the album for the first time , but William Orbit . Batt is also only co-writing one track, God On The Drums, Devil On the Bass . Melua, on the other hand, is (co-) author of all titles, with the exception of the only cover version of the album, The One I Love Is Gone by Bill Monroe , but has only written two songs in solo work.
This time the British composer Guy Chambers , who had already worked for Robbie Williams , plays a decisive role . One title was co-written with Polly Scattergood , the titles Twisted and Plague Of Love were co-authored with Rick Nowels, who has already worked for artists such as Madonna and Nelly Furtado . According to Melua, she was anxious to “go other ways” with the songwriting , but does not see the album as a “breakout from [her] past”.

Reviews
The online edition of Focus magazine wrote that Melua had "audibly grown up" with the album, although not everything had turned out well, the artist showed that she was "obviously interested in experiments". In the daily newspaper Die Welt one read that it was a gift “to reach millions of people with inconspicuous music” and stated that Katie Melua “suddenly wants to make herself more interesting than she is” with the album. The Austrian online magazine Relevant noted that despite a musical reorientation, there was "no real break with the first three studio albums" and that the album " sounds more convincing and more varied than its predecessor Pictures ." Eberhard Dobler from laut.de called The House " radio-friendly pop stuff ... with that certain unembarrassing extra ”.
