The Hunt (alternative title: The Hunt - Eiskalte Liebe ; original title: Cold Around the Heart ) is an American thriller from 1997 . Directed by John Ridley , who also wrote the script.

action

Ned Tash and Jude Law jointly rob a jewelry store, killing three people. Tash is arrested and Law escapes with the booty. Tash escapes and looks for his former accomplice.

During his search, Tash meets Bec Rosenberg, who is hitchhiking and who he takes with him. He shoots one of his friends when he tries to rape Rosenberg. Rosenberg later travels with Law, who takes them to the hiding place for the loot in a junkyard. At that moment Tash appears, whereupon Law accuses her friend of having betrayed her.

Law stabs Tash with a knife. She approaches Rosenberg, who she wants to kill; at that moment she is shot by the injured Tash. Rosenberg flees with the prey while Tash tries to light a cigarette for his former girlfriend. Leaking gasoline is set on fire, whereupon he and Law die in an explosion.

The film ends with Rosenberg buying a train ticket to Canada . She pays for the ticket with a diamond.

Reviews

Lawrence van Gelder wrote in the New York Times on November 7, 1997 that the concept of the film might have looked good on paper, but that the finished film was different. Some qualities of the story - like the " smart " and " tough " character of Law, who is good with guns and good in bed - could have made it the " Bonnie and Clyde story of the 90s ". The main characters played by David Caruso and Kelly Lynch would appear as lively as a " pair of corpses ". Between the robbery at the beginning and the explosion at the end, the film is a road movie .

Awards

John Ridley won the Urbanworld Film Festival jury award in 1997 for his directorial work .
