The Masked Singer Austria is an Austrian music show in which celebrities, masked in full body costumes, sing. It is based on the South Korean format King of Mask Singer , which premiered in 2015. The Austrian edition started on March 14, 2020 on Puls 4 and is moderated by Arabella Kiesbauer . On March 19, 2020 it was announced that production will be interrupted with immediate effect due to the COVID-19 pandemic , as safe production can no longer be guaranteed. The broadcast is scheduled to continue on September 15, 2020.

Like the German edition of the show, it is produced by Endemol Shine Germany , with 4Entertainment also participating in the production. The same studio is used in Cologne , as a separate set in an Austrian city would be more costly for the station.

concept

In each show, celebrities such as singers , actors or athletes in full body costumes compete against each other with a song of their choice in a singing contest. Celebrity voices are distorted beyond singing . After the performance, the jury should guess which celebrity is under the mask. For each of the costumed objects are brought onto the stage as a live indication and the person says something about it. The jury can also ask a question.

After each duel or tri-ball, the viewers vote by telephone . The winners of the voting may keep the mask and participate in the next episode. Without singing again, the losers have to wait for the final vote of the respective show. The singer with the fewest calls has to take off his mask and leave the show. The others continue to participate.

Season 1 (2020)

The first season started on March 14, 2020 on pulse 4 . On March 12, the broadcaster announced that it would be producing The Masked Singer Austria without a studio audience until further notice as a precautionary measure against the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus . A week later, production was completely interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
